Scriblerus Press is the publishing arm of Banyan Institute, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit corporation headquartered in New York City.  Its mission is to nurture and promote eclectic literary works and writers -- without much concern for mass-market viability.  The house operates leanly, under the fashion radar -- and with an eye to speaking truth to power.  Its pretense is to be a small, however provisional, antidote to the everpresent hegemony of consumerism.  In so doing, Scriblerus Press hopes to navigate the Scylla and Charybdis of contemporary American letters -- McSweeney-esque absurdism to one side, and Oprah-style marginal lyricism to the other.

Banyan Institute is a member of IBPA, the Independent Book Publishers Association.

In high school, I had trouble balancing a pre-pubescent math/science geekdom with a newfound love of literature. I went on to earn a BA in English from Columbia University while apprenticing in creative writing under David Ignatow, Colette Inez, Kenneth Koch, and Raymond Kennedy.

After college, I was able to resurrect my inner-techie by working as a network engineer for six years. Wanderlust then lured me abroad -- to Spain, China, and India, among other places. In 2004 I completed an MA at the University of London in modern literature.

Along with poems in various journals, I've published two longer works, an embarrassingly autobiographical coming-of-age novel called The Naysayer's Yearbook and a parody of Star Wars called The Empire Menaced: the unauthorized autobiography of Dearth Nadir.

Currently I'm finsihing up a PhD in English at the University of London under the supervision of Professor Andrew Gibson. My topic: the cultural currency of string theory.

After studying English Literature at UC Berkeley, I did a Masters in Modern Lit at the University of London.  My dissertation discussed the waning complexities of films about the South Asian diaspora in Britain.  From there, I moved to Punjab, India to guest lecture in the English department at Punjabi University in Patiala for a semester.  I then joined Sean to do a brief teaching stint at a university in Tokyo for one semester.

For two years, I taught English Literature at a low-income "high needs" high school in the South Bronx, for which I ran the school's first creative writing class.  Currently, I teach AP English and serve as a Dean at Brooklyn Tech.  I'm also working on research in the field of South Asian studies.
