Shveta and I are back from the SLSA conference in Portland, Maine.  I presented my paper on Thursday, November 1st to a small but attentive audience.  Shveta claims that I did pretty well, especially once I got warmed up and started to show my enthusiasm for the topic.

She also generously agreed to record the talk on video.  I’m including 3 excerpts from the talk here in this post.  They are actually answers to questions that audience members posed.  If the sound seems low, I apologize.  We were using a little Flip Video camcorder.  This task certainly pushed the machine to its limits.

Also, we’ve prepared a pre-publication announcement flyer (a PDF) for the anthology Riffing on Strings.  Feel free to download it, print it out, and share it with whomever you like.

One last thing: there’s an interesting article in the November issue of Scientific American on braneworld cosmology and inflationary theory by Cliff Burgess and Fernando Quevedo.  It’s entitled, ‘The Great Roller Coaster:  Could cosmic inflation be a sign that our universe is embedded in a far vaster realm?’
