This is the first entry in what I hope will be an onging blog on various topics that center around writing, specifically the writing of my doctoral thesis and creative writing in general.  I'm currently starting the second year of postgraduate studies in the English Department at Royal Holloway College, University of London.  My supervisor is Professor Andrew Gibson and my thesis topic is 'the cultural currency of string theory'.

[Note: in the UK, it's a Master's dissertation and a PhD thesis, as opposed to the other way around, like in the US.  Somewhat confusing, but, hey, they were first.]

More to come on the trials and tribulations of writing a PhD thesis, specifics about the topic, and the process of organizing and publishing the anthology of creative writing inpired by string theory...
